Types of Gymnastics


Artistic Gymnastics

This type of gymnastic is usually divided into men’s and women’s gymnastic. Each of the group has to perform different artistic events. Men section the gymnastic group usually compete on floor exercise, still rings, Vault, parallel bars, and high bars, while the women group compete on vault, uneven bars, beam, and floor exercise. In many nations, women at one time competed on the rings, high bar, and parallel bars. The routine followed by gymnasts in artistic gymnasts may be short; they are physically exhausting and push the gymnast’s strength, stamina, elasticity and awareness to the limit.

At the international level, the competitions of the artistic gymnastics consist of two different categories on which performance is given, compulsory and optional. Nowadays, many countries use optional and compulsory routines at their discretion in the training of young gymnasts.


Rhythmic Gymnastics

The largest events in the gymnastic sport are Olympic Games, Grand-Prix Tournaments and World Championship. 


Aerobic Gymnasts

It involves the performance of routines by individuals, pairs, trios or groups up to 6 people; it emphasizes strength, flexibility and aerobic fitness rather than balance or acrobatic skills. This type of sports routines is performed on a small floor area and generally last around 60-90 seconds.


Acrobatic Gymnasts

Often referred as acrobatics, acro or most of the times simply sports acro, it is a cluster gymnastic discipline for both men and women. Acrobatics gymnastics is generally performed in groups of two, three, the four gymnast’s routine perform with the heads, hands and feet of their partners. They are free to pick their own music, but lyrics or Disney music is not allowed. Performers of the sport compete in preparatory grades A and B, and then it gradually moves on to grades 1,2,3,4 and 5, by 3, 4 and 5 two routines are required, one for tempos and the other one for balancing.
